Three Stripe Damselfish Care - Size, Life Span, Tank Mates, Breeding
The Three Stripe Damsel Dascyllus aruanus is an attractive black and white striped fish with a white nose and white tail. There are no bland adults here, although they may become a bit more muted as they mature. A group makes a spectacular display in the aquarium when they have rockwork or coral to hover around. This is because in the ocean they will often live in a commensal relationship with corals.
The Three Stripe Damselfish is readily available and often quite inexpensive compared to other saltwater fish species. Online they might be even cheaper, but after you factor in shipping costs maybe not so much. They are easily confused with the Dascyllus melanurus which is more commonly known as the Four Striped Damselfish.
The Four Stripe Damselfish Dascyllus melanurus is a very handsome fish. It is decked out with black and white stripes across its body, another on the tail fin, and accented with a white nose and lips. This is one of the few damsels that keeps it dramatic design throughout its life, though the pattern may fade a tad with age. This damselfish is almost identical in to its close cousin, the Three Stripe Damsel Dascyllus aruanus. They are also very durable and have the same behaviors and attitude.
