Impaled woman on pole

Impalement , as a method of execution and torture, is the penetration of a human by an object such as a stake, pole, spear, or hook, often by the complete or partial perforation of the torso. It was particularly used in response to "crimes against the state" and regarded across a number of cultures as a very harsh form of capital punishment and recorded in myth and art. Impalement was also used during times of war to suppress rebellions , punish traitors or collaborators, and punish breaches of military discipline. Offenses where impalement was occasionally employed included contempt for the state's responsibility for safe roads and trade routes by committing highway robbery or grave robbery , violating state policies or monopolies, or subverting standards for trade. Offenders have also been impaled for a variety of cultural, sexual and religious reasons.

A woman has been airlifted to hospital in a critical condition after she was impaled by a metal pole that smashed through her windscreen, according to Queensland Police. The woman was driving on the Warrego Highway near Oakey, north-west of Toowoomba, just after 3pm when the incident occurred. It's believed the pole went through the windscreen. Credit: Seven News.

Christina Jahnz had a pole go through her thighs and buttocks when she hit a guardrail last Wednesday while sending a text at the wheel in Elizabeth, Colorado. Firefighters were forced to saw the front and back off the pole off to get the woman out of the wreckage before transporting her to Parker Adventist Hospital where she underwent surgery.
