First opened in , Haulover Park seems to continue to impress naturists thanks to its beauty, location, and the laid back and fun atmosphere you'll find here. Haulover became very popular as a clothing-optional beach when the revenue-hungry county looked the other way as they collected fees from naturists to use the beach. However, too little clothing became too much of an issue, and a reasonably fair solution was to limit clothing-optional access to the northernmost yard stretch of the beach.

At the suggestion of others who know that I always go topless at the beach and that both my husband and I regularly wear g-string swimsuits, we finally tried a nude beach. We spent six days on South Beach and tried the clothing-optional section of Haulover Beach one day. The results were somewhat mixed. Although the coverage of our swimsuits has been asymptotically approaching zero over the years, the psychological leap to nudity on a public beach was a bit jolting. For me, it was a tough mental adjustment to put myself completely out there. It also demanded a great deal of self-control to keep my hands off certain parts of him! Everyone else acted like this was no big deal.
